EQ: After watching the video, do you think maintaining good grades is most important? If public schools in the US decided to forego (cut) grading systems, what are some ways students success COULD be measured?

Watch and listen to the video first. Respond to the questions posted above in a short paragraph (around 4-5 sentences) with reasons to support your answers. The better your support is, the stronger your response becomes.

Due:

EQ: How can you begin developing the college traits explored in the AW article now so that they'll be part of your high school experience and help your chances of college acceptances? How could YOU specifically show passion, responsibility, enthusiasm, leadership, initiative, maturity, and character? in Google Classroom

EQ: How can you begin developing the college traits explored in the AW article now so that they'll be part of your high school experience and help your chances of college acceptances? How could YOU specifically show passion, responsibility, enthusiasm, leadership, initiative, maturity, and character?

1. Watch the video lesson first; it contains the AVID Weekly article reading selection.
2. Answer the EQ to the best of your ability, being as specific as possible. Answer all parts.
3. Make sure you submit by Friday--your submission IS your attendance for the week (no submission means you're marked "absent" from class). Google Meets are 2:00-2:30 on MONDAY and 2:30-3:00 on FRIDAY this week. Please pop in to say hi and so I can see your lovely faces :) I'll post the link to the meets in GC later.

Virtual College Tours Assignment in Google Classroom

Virtual College Tours Assignment

1. Watch the Lesson/Instructions video FIRST. It will alleviate a lot of confusion and questions later since it contains instructions and "how-to's".
2. Take a virtual tour of AT LEAST 4 different colleges from the selections on the youvisit.com site (link is below)
3. Complete the table as you go through each college tour. Table is due FRIDAY by 5:00 PM
If you are confused or have questions about the assignment after watching the video, please chat with me through Google Hangouts from 2-3 p.m. today (Monday) or Friday (the Google Hangout tutorial was posted on this page earlier. Go back into the stream if you missed it).

**fun fact: My undergrad degree was from Neumann University in Aston, PA and that school has a virtual tour if you'd like to see where Mrs. Pardee went to school for her first degree :)

AVID Career Exploration Project! in Google Classroom

AVID Career Exploration Project!

Earlier this school year I asked you to research a learning institution of your choice. After your research, you completed a banner for that institution. Now I'm going to ask you to think about TWO possible career choices you MIGHT want in the future and use them for this assignment.

PLEASE read the directions attached along with my career exploration project sample. Please email me any questions. Have fun with it! I cannot wait to see how they turn out :)

Due:

EQ: Should there be a national minimum wage? in Google Classroom

EQ: Should there be a national minimum wage?

Ok, so hopefully you've had a chance to read the AW articles I posted on Monday. Now we're going to try Digital Philosophical Chairs. First, please answer the EQ posted with how you feel and WHY. Your post should reference one or both articles and be written IN A PARAGRAPH (some of you only wrote a few sentences for the vaccine one. Let's try harder this time please).

You will also earn a PARTICIPATION grade if you respond to classmates' posts in the thread (just like in class, it's ok to disagree but do it in a respectful, kind way). For full participation credit, please read and respond to at least two classmates by FRIDAY.

Due:

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: What is the science behind tattoos? Could tattooing technology save lives? in Google Classroom

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: What is the science behind tattoos? Could tattooing technology save lives?

I thought we'd build a little on our last Philosophical Chairs about vaccines with new ideas about how they might work in the future. Please watch the video "The Chemistry of Tattoos" , read the article, "All the Science That Goes into a Single Tattoo" and then read the information in the AVID WEEKLY PDF. You will next answer the ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS. You will submit your answer right underneath the essential questions in Google Classroom. Your response needs to be one paragraph (at least 7 sentences) including evidence from the readings/video to support your response. The better you support your response, the better your paragraph will be.
