Promotion Requirements - ALL Grades
At The STEAM Academy @ Burke, we encourage high academic standards and college readiness at all grade levels. In order for middle school to effectively prepare your sons and daughters for the academic challenges and rigor of high school, The STEAM Academy maintains the following academic performance and citizenship expectations as requirements for promotion:
**Beginning with the class of 2016 and every class that follows
1. Students will need to maintain a cumulative (6th, 7th, and 8th grade years combined) GPA of 2.0 or higher.
2. No more than one U in citizenship for all subjects 2nd semester of 8th grade year only.
If the above requirements are met, students will be permitted to participate in the following 8th grade activities: 8th Grade Dance, Knott’s Berry Farm Field Trip and Promotion Ceremony. The school principal will make the final determination for promotion to ninth grade based on the student’s overall progress.
Lastly, promotion ceremonies will once again be held at our school site. Students will not be required to purchase gowns for this ceremony. While we want to celebrate those students who have met middle school criteria for promotion, we also want to emphasize the significance of a high school graduation by having students experience the traditional cap and gown ceremony when they complete high school.
