Principal's Message

 

Bienvenidos! Welcome to STEAM Academy, a magnet school for the 21st Century. At STEAM we offer students a unique educational program designed to engage students in the learning process and help them develop the necessary skills to be college and career ready. Middle school is a time of transition for parents and students. It is a time of choices and challenges. We want to assure you that our experienced staff will be working alongside you to insure that your son or daughter takes full advantage of the exciting educational opportunities that will be available to them at the STEAM Academy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics - is the broad umbrella for how the curriculum in this new and innovative program is designed and organized. Students will tackle middle school concepts while incorporating the 4 C’s of 21st Century learning – critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Our Magnet program supports and supplements the Common Core curriculum, providing a common lens through which children master knowledge while interdisciplinary teaching enables students to make important and long lasting connections across content areas. Teachers will be working in teams to design and develop lessons centered around Project Based Learning, which is a teaching method in which students gain vital knowledge and skills by working for extended periods of time to investigate and respond to a complex question, problem, or challenge. In addition, students will be offered a wide range of stimulating electives that fall under the broad umbrella of STEAM.

As students grow and learn, they find joy and satisfaction in working closely with their peers and teachers toward a common goal and this kind of education best prepares them for their futures in further education and the workplace.

 

Commitment to the best education possible will require support from parents, students, as well as staff, and that common commitment will be the key to our success here at the STEAM Academy. School and home can work together to build skills and knowledge, to reinforce values, and to develop a strong sense of self-worth. We must invest out time and energy in our nation’s most valuable resource – our children. As we continue to make history in our district, we are happy that you will be a part of it.
